Weather Station Barometer Adjustment Helper

Parameters

Console Elevation Elevation of the barometer in meters.

Current Relative Pressure Current relative pressure displayed by the barometer in hPa.

Current Absolute Pressure Current absolute pressure displayed by the barometer in hPa.

Nearest METAR Sea Level Pressure Current Sea Level Pressure by the nearest METAR station.

Use the map at https://aviationweather.gov/metar to find the closest METAR station near you.
Once found, enter the ID of the local METAR station below the map, click on Decoded for the "Format", and then click "Get METAR Station".
Look for "Pressure(altimeter)" and then type the value for "Sea Level Pressure" in this box.

Applying Offsets (Read Before Proceeding)

Before applying any offsets, switch the weather system to display pressure in hPa, as it is more precise.
Once the weather station is calibrated, the unit can be changed back to inHg if preferred.

Depending on the weather station, the offsets need to be applied differently.

WS-2000 / GW1000: The offset adjustments for Step 1 and Step 2 need to be done separately. Make the change for Step 1, then exit out of the calibration settings. Then re-enter the calibration settings for Step 2. Failure to do so will result in errors, as the system does not save the offset adjustment without leaving the calibration settings.
WS-2902: For Step 1, the offset needs to be applied to the relative pressure. For Step 2, the offset needs to be applied to the absolute pressure.

Instructions

Step 1

The weather station barometer is properly calibrated based on elevation. No adjustments are needed.

In this step, the relative pressure offset needs to be adjusted to match the console's elevation.

Based on the values provided, the weather station's barometer needs to have an offset of hPa applied.

Once the offset has been applied, the weather station should now report the relative pressure as hPa.

Step 2

The weather station is properly calibrated to the nearest METAR station. No adjustments are needed.

In this step, the pressure needs to be adjusted to line up with the closest METAR station.

Based on the values provided, the weather station's barometer needs to have an offset of hPa applied to line up with the nearest METAR station.

Once the offset has been applied, the weather station should now report the relative pressure as hPa.

Step 3

Now that the offsets have been applied to the weather station, double check the values and ensure they are still correct. Depending on how long it may have taken to apply the offsets, the pressure may have changed, so a double check is crucial to ensure accuracy.

Over the next several days, compare the weather station numbers with the local METAR station to identify if any further adjustments are required.
